Voting in Wyoming
Voting rules are set by each state. This is a summary of Wyoming voting rules, checked Nov. 4, 2026, from Vote.gov (U.S. government), the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) and Ballotpedia. Rules and dates can change, so confirm with Wyoming’s official election website or your local election office before each election.
Registering to vote
- Online: Wyoming does not offer online registration.
- By mail: must be received 14 days before Election Day.
- In person: available through Election Day (same-day registration).
- Register or check your registration (Wyoming on Vote.gov)
Primary elections
Wyoming has closed primaries: only voters registered with a party can vote in that party’s primary. Party changes must be made well before the primary; Wyoming no longer allows switching parties on primary day.
Voter ID
Wyoming requires an ID to vote in person, and some non-photo IDs are accepted. If you don’t have acceptable ID, you can vote a provisional ballot, but you must take extra steps after Election Day for it to count.
Early voting
Starts: Twenty-eight days before election (in-person absentee). Ends: Day before election. Locations and hours are set locally.
Voting by mail
Any Wyoming voter can request an absentee/mail ballot. No excuse is needed.
