Rules and dates can change, so confirm with Nebraska’s official election website or your local election office before each election.

Primary elections
Nebraska rules vary by office: any voter can choose a party ballot for congressional races; for other offices, the Democratic primary is semi-closed and the Republican primary is closed. Unaffiliated voters can also choose a nonpartisan ballot. Nebraska’s Legislature is nonpartisan.
Voter ID
Nebraska asks voters to show a photo ID. If you don’t have one, there are other ways to cast a ballot that counts, such as being identified by a poll worker or signing an affidavit, depending on state rules.
Early voting
Starts: Thirty days before each election. Ends: The day before the election. Locations and hours are set locally.
Voting by mail
Any Nebraska voter can request an absentee/mail ballot. No excuse is needed.
