Primary elections
Alaska uses a top-four primary: all candidates for an office appear on one ballot, any voter can vote, and the top four advance to the general election. A ballot measure to repeal this system (Ballot Measure 2) was on the Nov. 3, 2026 ballot; early unofficial results showed it narrowly failing with many votes still uncounted.
Voter ID
Alaska asks voters to show an ID, and non-photo IDs are accepted. If you don’t have one, there are other ways to cast a ballot that counts, depending on state rules.
Early voting
Starts: Fifteen days before election. Ends: Day of election. Locations and hours are set locally.
Voting by mail
Any Alaska voter can request an absentee/mail ballot. No excuse is needed.
